These instructions will show you how to make a traditional origami frog. This model is a little bit complicated, but if you take a moment to review our Beginner’s Guide, you should be ok.
Traditional Origami Frog Step-by-Step Instructions
Start with the white side of the paper facing up. Fold in half and unfold.
Step 2
Fold in half the other way and unfold. Flip the paper around.
Step 3
Fold and unfold along the diagonals.
Step 4
Rotate the paper and flip it around.
Step 5
Collapse along the dotted lines to create a Square Base.
Step 6
Lift the top right flap and squash it down along the dotted line, making sure the right corner aligns with the centerline.
Step 7
Turn the model over and repeat Step 6 on the back.
Step 8
Fold the top right flap to the left and squash it down as you did in Step 6. Turn the model over and repeat on the other side.
Step 9
Fold the bottom edges to the centerline, then unfold.
Step 10
Petal fold the flap, using the folds from step 9.
Step 11
Turn the model over and repeat Steps 9 and 10 on the back.
Step 12
Flip the top two right flaps to the left and repeat Steps 9 and 10. Turn the model over and repeat on the other side.
Step 13
Fold the bottom edges of the top layer to the centerline. Turn the model over and repeat on the other side.
Step 14
Flip the top two right flaps to the left and repeat Step 13. Turn the model over and repeat on the other side.
Step 15
Open the front pair of flaps and make inside reverse folds to lift the frog’s legs.
Step 16
Open the back pair of flaps and make inside reverse folds to bring the legs outward.
Step 17
Inside reverse fold all four legs along the dotted lines.
Step 18
Inside reverse fold the tips of the legs to shape the front and back feet.
Step 19
Mountain fold the top part of the head downward.
Alternative technique: Blow air into the bottom hole (between the legs) to make the frog puff up. You’ll get a 3D frog:
